ABOUT

QUICK BIO: Kevin Miller of 9,999 is an award winning songwriter, composer and recording artist living in Santa Fe, NM. Miller says that he has found his center “Staying open and staying curious, watching and listening. It feels best to me to stay in the creative flow…and it is the funnest thing to do.  Somehow it took me years to realize it but, that’s where I’m happy. Fun rules. Creativity rules” If Miller isn’t out performing, he’ll be rehearsing with the band, recording or in the middle of some other creative endeavor. After years of musical collaborations as a songwriter, arranger, and performer behind other bands, Miller is now deeply focused on developing his own songs and compositions. In the end though he loves to get out there and perform. “Up and performing, that’s a solid place for me. I feel right at home there and I’m lucky enough to have something interesting and perhaps beautiful to offer when I play”. Miller and his wife Julia own The Violin Shop of Santa Fe where he has been doing violin restoration and repair for the past 30 years.

THE MUSIC:

9,999 (nine thousand nine hundred ninety nine) is the name of Miller’s musical vehicle for exploring song forms and soundscapes in styles ranging from rootsy indie and alternative rock to the sonic gardens of his more experimental works. From beautiful and touching acoustic songs to richly energized and complex rock-ensemble pieces, Miller’s writing can uncover sweetness and vulnerability, evoking heart and home or can pivot to unspool a shifting array of rock-oriented songs full of compelling and dynamic imagery.

AWARDS and ACCOLADES:

In 2023 the song ‘Get On’ from Miller’s latest record ‘Arroyo Borealis’ was selected as a finalist for ‘Best Indie Rock Song of the Year’ at The New Mexico Music Awards.

In 2021 Miller received the award for ‘Best Indie Rock Song of the Year’ for his single ‘Uptight Meat’ from The New Mexico Music Awards. His album ‘Closer Than It Seems’ had also selected as a finalist for ‘Best Rock Album of the Year’ that same year.

In 2015 Miller’s band at the time, 50 Watt Whale, received the award for ‘Best Rock Album of the Year’ for their record ‘WHUMP’ from The New Mexico Music Awards.

CURRENT PROJECTS:

Performance: Miller is currently performing with his lively, diverse, semi-acoustic rock band ‘9,999’. The band has rootsy, americana sensibilities. At the core are Miller’s original works salted with cover songs from various artists: Neil Young, Tom Waits, R.E.M., Bob Dylan, Bruce Cockburn, Twenty One Pilots, the Beatles, Grateful Dead and others. A night with 9,999 is going to be a ride!

Studio Projects: Miller has recently completed work on his ‘ARROYO BOREALIS’, a record of original, approximately acoustic songs. He is currently working on a new project of rock and experimental works.
